Nyx

Nyx is a Greek goddess and the personification of night as well as a co-ruler over the House of Hades, along with Lord Hades. Hades took his son Zagreus into the Underworld where his real mother, Persphone, could not follow, and thus Nyx acted as his mother until he became an adult. While she still acts as a motherly figure to him even after Zagreus found out about his real mother, she cannot aid him much in his escapes due to her role. When the Collider shot through the Underworld and in the Olympic Skies, Nyx found herself with a new pantheon of gods and goddesses to deal with. She can handle herself just fine though.

Nyx utilizes a unique mirror that allows her to switch between two largely similar movesets with slight tweaks that make them better in some respects and worse in others, giving her plenty of options and strategy to think about. In addition to her unique reflector, she mainly utilizes projectile attacks that can sink into opponents and inflict more damage depending on certain conditions. She can also use Hades and Chaos to give her an upper edge in battle over her opponents with her Level 3 Finisher.

Gimmick: Mirror of the Night

Nyx utilizes the Mirror of the Night, a magic mirror that utilizes Darkness to change the user's abilities, giving them perks that remain on them even after they die over and over. Nyx's side special, Reflect of the Night allows her to change between two movesets that are largely the same but have their own tradeoffs and perks. This even applies to her Finishers, which change depending on what side of the mirror she's on. Her hand will glow red when using her "normal" moveset and glow green for her "reflected" moveset.

Worth noting is that the movesets cannot be mixed and matched like the original game- the most Nyx can do to mix the two is use a different side of the mirror for her Finishers than the moveset she intends to use them with.
Moveset
Normal
Shadow Presence
Nyx attacks with a dark crystal projectile that deals 6 damage and she can spam up to three at once. Uniquely, when Nyx strikes a opponent from behind, it does 10% more damage from behind, inflicting 6.6 damage. Reflect of the Night
Nyx uses the Mirror of the Night to reflect her moveset, phasing through it to the other side to change her moveset. While active, the mirror reflects projectile attacks and flips opponents with physical attacks, causing them to face the other way as Nyx phases through the mirror. Halts falling and momenteum.
Black Shawl
Nyx utilizes the Black Shawl to move through her enemies- a dark presence coats the opponent and then by tilting the control stick the player can launch Nyx into any direction they desire while spiking the opponent downwards to deal 11 damage. Boiling Blood
Nyx sends out a "Cast", a purple diamond that can sink into a opponent and stay active inside them while dealing 9 damage on hit. Nyx has a total of three in her UI that deplete on use- after 10 seconds or after the opponent is defeated the Cast returns to her. When she pops a Cast into a opponent, she deals 0.10x more damage with her other attacks. The effect stacks as well. By default, Nyx has to pick up her Casts after they drop.
Reflected
Fiery Presence
Nyx attacks with a blue fire projectile that deals 8 damage and inflicts Burn on the opponent on hit. Deals 15% more damage to opponents that are undamaged, dealing 9.2 damage instead.
Purple Pendent
Nyx uses the purple pendent on her chest to become a purple star that zips forward up to three times, dealing 3 damage on contact. Each "zip" can be influenced by the direction of the control stick and briefly while moving Nyx becomes intangible, although she still has tangible frames. Lastly, you can cancel to create a small explosion that deals 9 dark damage and put Nyx into a helpless state. Abyssal Blood
Nyx sends out a "Cast", a purple diamond that can sink into a opponent and stay active inside them while dealing 9 damage on hit. Nyx has a total of three in her UI that deplete on use- after 10 seconds or after the opponent is defeated the Cast returns to her. When she pops a Cast into a opponent, they become 6% percent slower on all attacks and movement speed. The effect can stack as well. By default, Nyx has to pick up her Casts after they drop.
Finishers
Infernal Soul
Level 1
Nyx gains an additional Cast to use for her down special, bringing the total up to 4. Nyx can do this an additional second time to get 5 Cast to use, but caps out there. If she attempts to use it while maxed out, the Finisher energy will be refunded, allowing her to do a Level 3 Finisher instead.
Fated Authority
Level 2
Nyx gains a die that allows her to reroll the RNG numbers for her opponent's attacks for the match, heavily favoring her most of the time and even adds a percentage to opponents tripping. This effect lasts for 15 seconds before dissipating.
Dead Sigil
Level 3
Nyx holds her hand up as she holds Hades' Sigil of the Dead to call forth his aid, transforming her with a effect known as Unseen, which makes her semi-transparent and allows her to phase through opponents, avoid being locked onto and homed onto with attacks, moves 3x as fast, and deals 50-100% bonus damage with each of her attacks. Lasts a total of 15 seconds.
Stygian Soul
Level 1
Nyx's Casts will no longer drop but instead regenerates over a six second period. She'll be limited to three Casts still as Infernal Soul and Stygian Soul are not compatible. Performing this again drops the timer to 5 seconds, then 4 seconds, and finally 3 seconds. If she attempts to use it while maxed out, the Finisher energy will be refunded, allowing her to do a Level 3 Finisher instead.
Fated Persuasion
Level 2
Nyx gains a die that allows her to reroll her attack numbers for a brief period of time, each of them being assigned new damage values that show when she hits a opponent. The new damage numbers can range from 5-30 and effect all of her moves, even her standard attacks. This can really change the tide of battle, as her moves can drastically improve with higher damage numbers or her better attacks being stuck with lower damage values. Generally, the RNG works out that at least one attack will have 30 damage attached to it. This effect lasts for 15 seconds before dissipating.
Eldest Sigil
Level 3
Nyx uses the Eldest Sigil to summon Chaos, their parent through a Chaos Gate. Chaos inflicts one of three curses onto opponents which last a total of 15 seconds:
  • Atrophic - The opponent will be either dealt 25-49 damage or in stamina modes, their health will be reduced down by that much. This is only active for as long as the curse lasts.
  • Flayed - The opponent will be dealt 5-3 damage each time they use a special move. This is only active as long as the curse lasts.
  • Maimed - The opponent will be dealt 5-3 damage each time they use a standard attack. This is only active as long as the curse lasts.

Talent
When The Monstars rob the talent of Nyx, they gain Reflect of the Night to replace their side special, Intercept. This allows them to reflect projectiles and flip the opponent away from them with a quick mirror change. Unlike Nyx, they don't gain an additional moveset.
The active Monstar gains Nyx's shoulder armor as a physical attribute.
Insight
Nyx's secret is revealed.

Nyx secretly pitted Megara and Zagreus up against each other constantly to set them up romantically, as she is Megara's advisor while at the same time trying to help Zagreus escape.

Testimony
Saul Goodman gives a testimony for his client.
Your honor, my client is simply doing her duties in the House of Hades? Helping someone escape is not a crime and if they kill a couple thousand people that were already dead to begin with, well, what's really the harm there? Anyway, wow, it's getting dark, we better wrap this up fast, huh? What, don't wink?
Torture
When Nyx is caught by Posion, Poison esnares Nyx in her whip and shoves her into a bronze bull, where she heats the outside to scald the goddess while her legs dangle outside the trap door, dealing 45 damage and inflicting Burn afterwards. Based off a Greek torture method called the Brazen Bull.
